Electrician salary

What does an electrician earn?

As with (almost) all other professions, the same applies here: There is no one single salary. This is because the salary of electrical assistants varies according to certain factors. These are:

  • Professional experience: Salaries generally increase with experience.
  • Region: -Wages are often higher in economically stronger regions or large cities. Generally speaking, salaries are highest in the southern federal states.
  • Gender: Statistics show- that in the electrical industry - as in many other sectors - there are sometimes significant salary differences between men and women.
  • Size of the company: -Larger companies often pay higher salaries.
  • collective labour agreement: -A collective labour agreement: - can have a positive influence on salary.
  • Specialisation: -Specialised knowledge can lead to higher salaries in the electrical industry.

According to available data, the average salary of an electrician in Germany ranges between 1,800 and 2,300 euros gross per month. This corresponds to an hourly wage of around 11 to 15 euros. Those working on-call duty or overtime can expect a higher salary. Important: Since this is a Germany-wide average, the actual salary can vary considerably in some cases—both upwards and downwards.

Salary differences in the electrical industry

Salaries do not only vary greatly among electrical workers - there are also some striking salary differences within the electrical sector.

An electronics technician makes 3,342 euros gross on average per month, which corresponds to 40,100 euros per year - and is therefore well above the salary of an electrician. Specialists in the field of electrical engineering earn an average of 3,958 euros gross per month (47,500 euros per year), which is even more than electronics technicians.

An electrician specialising in the solar industry for example, earns up to 44,000 euros a year, an electrical engineer even up to more than 72,000 euros per year or between 3,800 and 5,900 euros per month.

It can therefore be said that salaries vary greatly within the electrical sector - and that the earnings of electrical assistants are below average overall. This is due to the fact that electrical assistants have a lower degree of specialisation and are often still at the beginning of their career. However, if an electrical assistant receives a standard wage, their salary can increase considerably.

It should also be noted that electrical assistants do not require traditional, formal training. However, the necessary qualifications can be obtained in other ways, for example through specific electrical engineering courses.
